Discover Kitulo National Park

Perched at around 2600 meters above sea level between the rugged peaks of the Kipengere, Poroto, and Livingstone mountains, Kitulo National Park is a floral paradise known as "The Garden of God." Famous for its stunning wildflower displays, the park is home to more than 350 species of vascular plants, including 45 varieties of terrestrial orchids. Between late November and April, the grasslands burst into a vibrant display of colorful flowers, offering one of the world's great floral spectacles.

Kitulo National Park is also a key watershed for the Great Ruaha River and a sanctuary for rare bird species, making it a prime destination for botanists and bird watchers alike. Kitulo National Park

Kitulo is the first national park in tropical Africa to be gazetted largely for its botanical significance. The park is home to a stunning array of wildflowers, including the striking yellow-orange red-hot poker, as well as aloes, proteas, and giant lobelias. More than 30 species are endemic to southern Tanzania. The park’s cool, misty climate makes it a haven for botanists and hikers alike, with its breathtaking landscapes and diverse flora.

Kitulo is also a great destination for bird watching, offering the chance to spot some rare species. While it is not known for large mammals, visitors can enjoy the tranquility of the park’s vast grasslands and explore its unique ecosystem. Wildflower enthusiasts will find the best displays during the rainy season, but hikers may prefer the drier months when the trails are more accessible.
